Structure Fire in Sherrill

WKTV News

An electrical malfunction of a clothes dryer appears to be the cause of Saturday's fire in Sherrill that destroyed a beauty parlor and a home.

It took several hours for fire crews to battle a large blaze in the City of Sherrill. No one was hurt, but now a business is destroyed and a family is homeless.

Officials say they responded to the scene around 4:30pm Saturday. When they arrived they saw thick black smoke pouring from the building. That building has now been identified as Tropical Escape Beauty Parlor. The fire quickly spread to a one-family home nearby.

Several fire departments assisted with bringing the blaze under control, including Oneida Castle, Vernon, Vernon Center and Verona.
Sherrill Fire Chief Doug Ray says it's the building's roof that caused the most problems for the firefighters.

Firefighters with the Sherrill-Kenwood Fire Department were out on the scene Sunday trying to clean up the debris.

Investigators say the fire started at the Tropical Escape Beauty Parlor, and spread to a one-family home next door.

The parlor is said to be a total loss, while the home has severe damage

I feel sorry for the people who worked there. They now need somewhere else to work. And Sherrill is a city and one of the nicest neighborhoods to live in. Everybody should be reaching out and helping the people who lost something due to this fire.

Ok We got the hint that Sherill is a "City". I agree that you all should comment on the actual fire itself and less about if the place you live is a City or town. My friend lost her business and her employees lost a place to do theirs. Instead why don't you Think about them and the people that are out of a home to live. What can you do for those people? I got your back Leighanne. I heart and prayers are with you girl! Love you so much!

While everyone seems so concerned about what the city of Sherrill is called, just remember that there are people who are homeless and without any of their possesions. There is one family fighting to salvage what little is left and another gentlemen who has nothing left. Please check your priorities and lend a helping hand to those who are in need. You never know if one day you may be that family!

Yes we are a City and those of us who live here know that. Let's not forget those that lost so much this past weekend. Thanks to our wonderful volunteers and the area firemen and women that helped out.

Does our local media realize that Sherrill is a "City" not a "Town." Sounds like a small point, but it just illustrates the lack of knowledge about our wonderful county. We have 3 cities, Utica, Rome and Sherrill.
