Structure Fire in Sherrill

WKTV News

An electrical malfunction of a clothes dryer appears to be the cause of Saturday's fire in Sherrill that destroyed a beauty parlor and a home.

It took several hours for fire crews to battle a large blaze in the City of Sherrill. No one was hurt, but now a business is destroyed and a family is homeless.

Officials say they responded to the scene around 4:30pm Saturday. When they arrived they saw thick black smoke pouring from the building. That building has now been identified as Tropical Escape Beauty Parlor. The fire quickly spread to a one-family home nearby.

Several fire departments assisted with bringing the blaze under control, including Oneida Castle, Vernon, Vernon Center and Verona.
Sherrill Fire Chief Doug Ray says it's the building's roof that caused the most problems for the firefighters.

Firefighters with the Sherrill-Kenwood Fire Department were out on the scene Sunday trying to clean up the debris.

Investigators say the fire started at the Tropical Escape Beauty Parlor, and spread to a one-family home next door.

The parlor is said to be a total loss, while the home has severe damage
