Charitable food services feeling the pinch of rising costs
UTICA - With the rising cost of everything from gasoline to grains to utilities, many businesses are feeling the pinch. But, so are charitable organizations that try to provide services to the less fortunate.
In the past three months alone, Hope House has taken 2,102 more people than it did last year. And as the costs go up, keeping up with the rising number of people to serve becomes an increasing challenge. "For the first time in a long time we've been really, really scrambling to make sure we can put out good, nutritional, well-planned meals," said Barbara Glueck, resource development manager at Hope House. Hope House serves three meals a day to those showing up to their doors in need, and are always looking for helping hands, and donations. Hope House is located at 130 Eagle Street in Utica, and can be reached at 793-3723. |
