Committee hearing held to discuss college and business growth
The New York State Senate Higher Education Committee held a committee hearing at Utica College Tuesday night. The intention of Tuesday nights hearing was to create a stronger partnership between area colleges and state government with a hope to spur economic development in Central New York. A room full of college officials including presidents and chancellors from private universities like Syracuse, Utica and Clarkson, joined with college officials from the state university of New York system to give testimonial to the state higher education committee on how schools and economic development go hand in hand. The idea is for state money to provide shovel ready sites near colleges, for potential developers The best example of that locally is SUNYIT, a campus that has 300 shovel ready acres for a future nano-tech facility. The interim chancellor of the whole SUNY system says that site will not go to waste. The chairman of the higher education committee says; if and when that business becomes a reality it will only help the area grow. He says that one big business is like an anchor to attract more and more businesses. Most Popular |
