Arterial project topic of discussion at Genesis Group meeting

By JOLEEN FERRIS

UTICA - The Genesis Group held its monthly meeting at the Hotel Utica Thursday morning. A main topic - plans for overhauling the North-South arterial.

Organizers invited the Department of Transportation's Regional Design Engineer to show group members the 15 possibilities being tossed around for revamping Utica's North-South arterial. And the group had many questions for the D.O.T. representative.

"From a Genesis perspective...an organization that's promoting the area... this type of project is economic development...certainly quality of life issues and to spend 50 plus million dollars, a lot of things can come from that," said Raymond Durso, Executive Director of the Genesis Group.

Also at the meeting, the Genesis Group honored their oldest member - singing happy birthday to Jim Kilmartin, who was celebrating his 91st birthday.

"It's called 12 North". That's a brilliant response - because every other city routes their truck traffic on city streets through downtown to get from one expressway to another. It's that backwards, outdated thinking that's holding Utica back.

Connect 5s to 49 at Leland? Sure, Progress. That's practical. 5s has a connection to 49. It's called 12 north. Out of all of the crazy and ignorant statements made on this site, that, my friend, is one of the best.

They really need to do *something* to improve the Arterial in Utica. They should also connect 5S at Culver Ave to 49 at Leland Ave. The transportation infrastructure here is really holding us back from real progress.
