Sunset Neighborhood gets big boost

By JOLEEN FERRIS

UTICA - A big boost to a local organization that helps senior citizens stay independent in their own homes. While Sunset Neighborhood helps seniors, the organization itself is in its infancy, at only one year old.

They help connect seniors with services they need to live at home -including rides to doctor's appointments, and-an extra set of ears to listen in.

The director says the $10,000 grant that Senator Joe Griffo secured will help off set ever-rising transportation costs.

"Transportation's a big issue in this area and in many rural areas," Griffo said. "And this will really give us a boost for helping the people with transportation, taking them to doctor appointments, it will just help subsidize those who have a tough time paying for some transportation services."

Griffo says it's important to support organizations that help Oneida County's ever-growing senior population.
