MV EDGE Business Plan Competition Profile #2: "Nail Creek Services"

By KRISTEN COPELAND

How would you like $20,000 to start a new career? Mohawk Valley Edge will select a winner of its business plan competition on Tuesday.

The contest was open to individuals who live or attend college in Oneida or Herkimer Counties, and to companies less than two years old.

We take a look at the second of four finalists - Nail Creek Services.

Have you ever read an instruction manual and thought: "I just can't understand it." Nail Creek Services could be your savior.

"We go into a company, we watch the operation, and we will interview someone that has anything to do with that machine,' said Frank Vlossak of Nail Creek Services.

The company re-writes manuals for complicated machinery, or in some cases, the company starts from scratch.

"They're also geared to capture what an experienced operator has learned on the job," Vlossak said. "They're knowledge is going into that manual and we expect the manual to then cut the learning time...cut the learning time down for a new operator."

Frank and Judy Vlossak, the owners, already have some experience. Their son used to put together custom manuals for the FX Matt Brewery.

"The manuals are so clear," said Judy Vlossak. "When my son showed me a manual for the brewery, I felt...I really felt I could go in and run the machine."

Win or lose, Nail Creek Services will get off the ground.

"We're going to the Chicago Trade Fair in November," said Judy Vlossak. "It's the largest manufacturing trade fair in the world."

"Sometimes it's a very long process," said Frank Vlossak. "But it turns out. We are very proud of what we turn out, and it's been very well received."
