Utica Police Officer Helps Afghan Kids

Sports WKTV

A Utica police officer is teaming up with his daughter, who is serving overseas, to help Afghanistan's children. Utica police sergeant Al Uryniak has sent out more than 50 boxes to his daughter, in Afghanistan, that are filled with items from clothing to candy. Each box cost between $12, and $22 to ship. To date Uryniak has spent more than $1,100 from partial donations but mostly out of his own pocket.  Uryniak is looking for items like shoes, soap, toothpaste, toothbrushes, pens, pencils, coloring books and even candy.

If you are interested in helping out you can drop off items at any of the following:

Utica Police Headquarters

Utica Fire Department, Bleeker St, Oneida Square, Sunset Ave., or Shepard Pl.

Kunkel Ambulance

You can also e-mail Uryniak at:

IT IS A WONDERFUL THING THAT YOU ARE TRYING TO DO...BUT WHAT I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IS WHEN SOMEONE IS GOING TO TRY TO TAKE CARE OF THE NEEDY CHILDREN HERE IN AMERICA? WE NEED TO TAKE CARE OF OUR OWN BEFORE WE WORRY ABOUT THE REST OF THE WORLD...NOW THAT IS A CAUSE I WOULD GLADLY GIVE TO!
