Counterfeit suspect offered plea in county court; answers more charges in city court

By JOLEEN FERRIS

UTICA - Jeremiah Hurd faces several felony charges, accusing him of passing counterfeit bills at local businesses, including Piggy Pat's restaurant in New Hartford.

Hurd had a surprise waiting for him after his arraignment in Oneida County Court Friday morning. Jeremiah Hurd pleaded not guilty - common in virtually 100% of indictments at the county court level.

The district attorney's office extended a plea offer; he has a few weeks to get back to them on that.

But then, two Utica Police Investigators took Hurd to Utica City Court, where he had to answer more counterfeit charges - two more felonies, for the same crime - possession of a forged instrument; in this case, counterfeit money.

We're told that happened just in the past two weeks, when Hurd is accused of passing counterfeit bills at a Varick Street business in Utica.

New Hartford Police say they're still investigating their suspicion that Hurd made the bills himself; they say matching serial numbers on the bills lead them to believe he did.

Hurd is due back in Oneida County Court in two weeks to let the judge know if he wants to accept the offer extended to him by the D.A.'s office, or go to trial.

he could have charges all over the state and it wouldnt matter. the judges and d.a.s in oneida county will run all sentences concurrently which means no additional jail time. all the scummbags in the state know this and thats why they commit several crimes. if any judge or da reads this i want to know if you people know what the word consecutive means or how to use it!!!! the reason there is so crime in oneida county is beacuse our judges dont put people in prison and the d.a plea bargains all
