NEWSChannel 2 in Court

ITHACA (AP) - The man alleged to be the "Collegetown Creeper" will not return to upstate New York to stand trial for burglary and sexual abuse.

Abraham Shorey is currently serving a six-year prison sentence in California and is not due for release until 2012.

The 27-year-old Shorey was arrested in 2004 for allegedly sneaking into the bedrooms of as many as 21 sleeping Cornell University coeds and molesting some of them. But he skipped bail and fled to California, where he was convicted of assaulting a San Diego woman in 2006.

Prosecutors said Friday that Shorey will not be brought back to New York for trial because of a lack of evidence. They also say one alleged victim and a key witness have left the Ithaca area and efforts to locate them have been unsuccessful.
