Employee charged for armed robbery at Yahnundasis Golf Club
NEW HARTFORD - On Thursday May 8 at approximately 4:30 p.m., the New Hartford Police Department investigated a report of an armed robbery that occurred inside the Yahnundasis Golf Club located on Rt. 5 in the Town of New Hartford. A 83 year old member of the Golf Club stated that at about 3:30 p.m. while he was in the locker room of the Club he was held at knifepoint while a male removed a wallet and ring from the victim. The victim was then forced into a storage closet and locked inside. The victim then pounded on the storage room door and yelled for help over the next hour, until his screams were heard. According to witnesses, when the victim was removed from the closet, he was in a state of distress. The victim suffered an injury to his hand during the robbery. Several leads were pursued over the next few days that led to a suspect, an employee of the Golf Club, who started working at the Yahnundasis about one week earlier. On Sunday evening the suspect was located in Utica and subsequently arrested. Arrested was John E. Terry, age 40, residing on Miller Street in Utica. Terry was charged with one count of first-degree robbery, a class B Felony, one count of first-degree unlawful imprisonment, a class E Felony, and third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, a class D Felony. Terry is currently on parole in New York State. A review of the criminal history of Terry shows numerous felony arrests for robbery and other crimes, including arrests in New York State and Pennsylvania. Terry was arraigned by Judge Virkler in New Hartford Town Court and remanded to the Oneida County Jail with no bail. This type of criminal attack could have been prevented by spending a few bucks on a background check of EACH new employee.
