840 Highway dedicated to Officer Joseph Corr
NEW HARTFORD - A local highway now bares the name of an area fallen hero. New Hartford Police Officer Joseph Corr's daughter, Kaitlyn helped unveil the new sign along Route 840 Thursday morning. Other public officials were on hand too. Corr was killed in the line of duty a little more than two years ago following a botched jewelry store robbery in New Hartford. Since then, state legislators passed a bill to change the name of the highway stretch of 840. "I just want to say that 840 means a lot to me," said Kathy Corr, Joseph Corr's mother. "I go up and down it three or four times a day sometimes...and when I see Joe's sign that's been up for a little bit of time, I get tears in my eyes and say 'I love you, Joe.'" Several police officers were also in attendance, many of them from over the county. The following comments do not necessarily represent the views of NBC-WKTV News Channel 2. He died defending people. A job he loved and did selflessly. I am amazed that there are so many ignorant people out there who would make such hurtful comments. His daughter will read these one day. I am sure if you were in trouble, despite your ignorance, Joe would have been there for you as well. Grow up. Joe is dead and will be missed by those who loved him. This has gone way to far. Cheif Philo has way too much time on his hands. I think that it's a wondeful thing having the highway in memory of him. I'm sure it means alot to his family.
