What's next for Barack Obama?

By EVAN WHITE

Barack Obama is being called the presumptive democratic nominee for president after receiving the necessary number of delegates. So what does it mean for New York's strong base of support for his opponent Hillary Clinton?

Clinton supporters are expected to switch allegiance to presumptive nominee Barack Obama according to the party's chair of Oneida County and officials from Zogby International.

The question now is - what will Obama's next move be?

Some believe the first step will be to pick a solid running mate. Could it be Hillary Clinton? A local party chair says he doubt's it will happen, but likes the chances if it does.

"If the two people can put things behind them and come together, I think it will make a very, very strong ticket," William Morris, Democratic Party Chair.

"He's the candidate of what's new and what's next," Fritz Wenzel, director of communications at Zogby International. "And to bring along what has been, and what is over will just not work It's just too much cognitive dissonance."

Here is what Congressman Michael Arcuri has to say regarding the two democratic finalists on one ticket:

"Bringing these two great leaders together to take our country in a new direction would be an outstanding and historic moment for our country. We cannot afford four more years of a mismanaged war and economic uncertainty. Now is the time to move forward to bring our country new leadership."

Obama and his opponent, Republican Senator John McCain have months left to campaign, and Wenzel says there's a lot of work to be done.

He feels that McCain must emphasize experience, but show that he's connected to the challenges of today's economy. On the other hand, he says Obama should bring in an experienced running mate and advisors.
