One of Utica's "Top Ten Most Wanted" arrested Tuesday

Willie Bennett, 71

By DAVID DELLECESE

UTICA - One profile on the Utica Police Department's "Top Ten Most Wanted" came down this week, after Willie Bennett, 71, was taken into custody.

On Tuesday, June 10, Bennett was arrested with the help of a citizen acting on information made available to the public from the "Top Ten Most Wanted" list which is posted on the Utica Police Department's web site.

Bennett was charged with failing to annually register with the New York State Sex Offender Registry and failing to notify law enforcement of an address change, both considered Class E Felonies in New York State.

"This website is a proven, effective way for the public to assist us in arresting criminals," said Commissioner Daniel LaBella.

Commissioner LaBella is encouraging anyone with information regarding the individuals on the Top Ten Most Wanted List to call 315-735-3307. All information will be kept confidential.

Using plausible reasons, citizens are being well conditioned to report on their neighbors and become the eyes and ears of the state! Talk about warrentless surveillance.
