SCHUYLER, N.Y. (WKTV) - A horrific accident took place as two people fell off of a building while working on a roof in Schuyler, Saturday.

At approximately 10:25 a.m., Onorato "Ronny" Bommarito, 59, and Christine Bommarito, 39, fell off the building at 3415 Rt. 5 and onto the asphalt pavement, while attempting to install a metal roof.

According to officials, Christine lost her footing while on the roof and started to slide toward the east side of the roof line. When she shouted for help, Ronny came from the west of the roof to assist Christine and prevent her from falling off.

Ronny then lost his footing as well, and the two fell to the ground.

Christine landed on her feet, and suffered numerous fractures to her lower legs, while Ronny landed head first, and suffered major head trauma.

A helicopter was called to the scene to help responders, but the victims were transported to St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Utica via ambulance.

State Police in Herkimer has reported that Christine is still being treated for her injuries, while Ronny was pronounced dead at the hospital.

The investigation into the tragedy is ongoing.
