Toxicology Results Released for Walter Washington

By Kristin Lowman

After an independent investigation the Utica Police Officer who shot and killed a man this past July has again been cleared of any wrong doing and the District Attorney's Office now considers the matter closed.

After a request by Walter Washington's family, the man killed by on duty Police Officer Geddes, the Oneida County District Attorney's Office brought in an outside source to investigate the case.

Dr. Lynton Clark interviewed both officers involved that night and reconstructed the scene. Dr. Clark found, like the District Attorney's investigation, that Officer Geddes and the State Trooper kept to police procedure that night.

Toxicology results have also been released. At the time of his death Walter Washington had a blood alcohol content of point 0.27. That amount is 3 times the 0.08 threshold level of intoxication in New York State. The results also showed levels of the antidepressant medication Zoloft in Washington’s blood.
