2012 Boilermaker 5k Race sells out

By WKTV News

UTICA, N.Y. - The second sneaker fell as the Boilermaker 5k hit its race cap of 4,000 registrants.

"Last year at this time we had 59 runners signed up," said Race Director Jim Stasaitis.

The 5k was born in 2000 with 822 people participating. Race officials say that last year marked two major changes to the 5k by moving the starting time from 7:30 to 7:15 a.m. and by renaming the event a race rather than a run.

By certifying the 5k as a run, the top three male and female finishers are given non-cash awards. Currently the only remaining event people can sign up for is the 3 Mile Walk which takes place Saturday, July 7 at the Boilermaker Expo, now located at Mohawk Valley Community College.

The 35th running of the Boilermaker Road Race will take place Sunday, July 8.
