Brewery outsourcing not expected to affect beer prices at this point
UTICA - Not even a month after fire destroyed the canning area of the F.X. Matt Brewery in Utica, the beer is being canned again. Only it's not happening here. They're outsourcing, with some of the beer being canned at other breweries, such as High Falls in Rochester and the Harpoon Brewery in Boston. The head of F.X. says this temporary move isn't going to affect the cost of beer... at least for now. "We're gonna try and not have a price increase immediately," said Nick Matt, President of the company. "We've got to understand what happens here and what the full effect is. We'll see what we can do to hold the prices. There are generally prices to deal with in the economy and we'll just have to deal with them as we go along." It could be 2 - 6 months before canning operations are back in working order here at home. In the meantime, Matt says bottling operations should be up and running at the end of June. Most Popular
