Testimony begins in 'Babysitter' trial

By MEGAN KOSKOVICH

UTICA - A mother takes the stand in the trial of man accused of sexually abusing her young daughter.

Michael Chicherchia is accused of sexually abusing a six year old girl last year.

To protect the identity of the mother and her daughter, we were asked not to disclose their names or shoot video of their testimony, but at times the mother's testimony became very emotional, especially when talking about her daughter.

The mother recounted to the jury what happened the night of the alleged incident, which is said to have happened on December 29.

That's when her daughter came under the watch of her friend, Chicherchia, when she wanted to go out for her birthday.

She says it wasn't until the next day that her daughter confessed what had allegedly happened the night before while Chicherchia watched her.

The mother says she took her daughter to the hospital, and then called police. That's when the Oneida County Child Advocacy Center became involved.

Investigators asked the mother to conduct a controlled or recorded phone call between herself and Chicherchia, with investigators doing the recording, days after the alleged incident took place.

On the recording, Chicherchia never gave a clear answer as to why he did it when questioned by the mother of child during the call.

In the phone call, he admitted to the mother "I did touch her...I've been feeling guilty about it ever since I did it." These were just a few of his admissions throughout the piece.

It was after the conversation that the authorities went to Chicherchia's apartment and arrested him.

The six-year-old girl is expected to take the stand Tuesday afternoon, though it is not clear if they would get to her testimony before or after the jury went for their lunch break.

he'll get what's coming to him in prison, unfortunately you can't give back a little girl's innocence.

He would let a six-year-old girl take the stand to relive the horrendous act? Doesn't say anything for him or much for his attorney! At least this way he'll get a lot more time than if he took the deal.
