Courtroom outburst marks closing arguments in 'Babysitter' trial

BY MEGAN KOSKOVICH

UTICA - Closing arguments in the trial of a Utica man were disrupted Wednesday morning by a violent outburst from the defendant. Michael Chicherchia interrupted the prosecution’s summation with an obscenity laced rant aimed at the judge and District Attorney.

Michael Chicherchia is charged with sexually abusing a six year girl while babysitting the child. He was physically removed by court officials after his outburst in Oneida County Court Wednesday morning.

Chicherchia was becoming more and more visibly agitated during the closing arguments of his trial. He was seen shaking his head from side to side, especially during the comments to the jury by Assistant District Attorney Doug DeMarche. Chicherchia finally snapped, standing up at the defense table, yelling, screaming, swearing and gesturing toward the judge. His tirade continued in a room adjoining the courtroom and could easily be heard in Judge Michael Dwyer’s court.

The closing arguments were completed and the case has gone to the jury, who are deliberating to reach a verdict.

NewsChannel 2 will have more on this trail and the verdict, if reached this afternoon, during our evening news. We will also update the website and events warrant.

I always knew something was't quite right with this kid when he worked for me. Wanting to fire your court appointed lawyer and represent yourself? Who in their right mind does something like that? OFFERS THE JUDGE, instead of going to prison, can I go to the military for 20 years?.. Another example of someone not in their right mind.. This kid definitely deserves whatever going to get, plus he needs to get a head check cause theres seriously something not right with the things he does and says.

why was this perv allowed to be in the court room with no handcuffs or restraints? all this nut had to do is reach over and grab a gun off of one of those older chaps that where attempting to restrain him and begin a killing rampage. remember what happened at a Georgia court room a few years ago. What is the Sherriff's department thinking about here...obviously not public saftey

I think by being present in the court room, that Michael needs mental help. He seems to be overly dramatic in hopes for attention. I do feel bad for him, he obviously made a bad judgement but he should have known better. I feel even more for the young girl that got her innocence taken away- I place part of the blame on her mother for leaving her with him. When you have kids, don't go out partying all night long- TAKE CARE OF THEM, DO NOT LEAVE THEM WITH UNTRUSTWORTHY PEOPLE !!!!!!

Good luck in State Prison Michael. They love guys who molest 6yr olds. Try yelling in there, your cries then will fall upon deaf ears.
