Brick and Star Campaign moves Players of Utica closer to new theater

By KRISTEN COPELAND

UTICA - Move over Hollywood Walk of Fame - the Players of Utica have a vision for its soon to be theater.

After 95 years of performing for the community, the Players are offering an opportunity for you to leave your mark on local history.

You can purchase a $150 brick to be laid in front of the new theater in honor or in memory of someone. Or you can pay $500 for an artistic star to be painted in the lobby.

All of that money will go towards construction on the $1.6 million theater on State Street.

"We will finish the building in its entirety when we raised another $400,000," said Vince Scalise of the Players of Utica. "By the Fall, we will have our certificate of occupancy, we'll be able to have smaller-scale shows and finish the actual theater itself."

Officials broke ground on the new theater in 2003, and it will be completed when they have the money to do so.

To purchase a brick or star, you can contact the Players of Utica at 724-7624.
