Former student takes plea deal in case of recording sexual act in school bathroom

UTICA - The Utica man accused of digitally recording a sex act involving a minor at Proctor High School pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of endangering the welfare of a child at Utica City Court on June 19.

Investigators say Sirdell Ruffin made the recording in the men's bathroom during school hours back in November.

Ruffin's sentence will be one year conditional discharge, and 50 hours of community service.

The judgments of some of you people are ridiculous. We don't know all the facts here. The students being recorded may have asked him to do it and furthermore, why aren't the two that were having sex in school in trouble??? For all we know this man may have been an innocent bystander who gave in to the suggestion of the two having sex and was railroaded because he was the only on ove 18. In this highly sexualized yet overly-sensitive society I wouldn't doubt it if I was told those were the facts.

As a person who works with sex offenders it is ashame that he did not get a more signinfigant sentence. There are many things that are in play here. Hopefully this young person will get some form of therapy and understand the error of his ways. He is young and should be affored a chance to work through his problems. He clearly needs to work through his denial of not having a problem and needs to understand what motivated him to do such things.

The pig shouldnt be just doing time, he should have body parts removed by the victims family. Disgusting. Oh yeah, therapy isnt going to work if the pig doesnt think he has a problem. How are these people being raised to think this is acceptable behavior..THEN he gets no punishment...just to reinforce it. I, for one, am sick of it. Lets band together for some real positive change.

Let's see...we are all upset that Mr. Ruffin didn't get a harsher sentence for this crime. Has anyone looked into the idea that the girl being recorded was performing a sex act in a school? Isn't that a crime? Did she ask Mr. Ruffin to record it? Would it still be a crime with consent? I wish we had more details in this case before we crucify this guy.
