Gas prices change views on energy

WASHINGTON (AP) - A new poll shows high gasoline prices have dramatically changed Americans' views on energy and the
environment. More people now say expanding oil drilling and building new power plants is a bigger priority than energy conservation.

The poll by the Pew Research Center shows nearly half of those
surveyed - or 47 percent - now rate energy exploration, drilling and building new power plants more important, compared with 35 percent in February.

The Pew poll of about 2,000 adults conducted in late June shows the shift toward energy development across the political spectrum including among Democrats, political independents, liberals and young people.

Cheney met with the oil people to develop an energy policy. When you want a helth care policy you talk to medical pros, same with energy, talk to the people that know the business. You can't just let politics and enviromental people make the policy, that is how we got in this mess.

It sure would be eye opening if Pelosi and Reid got some gumption and forced the disclosure of the minutes of that secret meeting Cheney had with the energy executives at the begining of the Bush administration. I'd be willing to bet there was some market minipulation in the works. Yea! We need more oil production and refining capacity but it HAS to be done responsibly. We also need to become more energy efficient in ALL aspects of our lives.
