Bob Ingalls, former Boilermaker Race director, loses battle with cancer

Robert Ingalls, the former director of the Utica Boilermaker Road Race, has died, Boilermaker Officials said.

Ingalls retired as director of the Road Race in 2007 after serving for six years.

The 66 year old was diagnosed with a Stage 4 pancreatic cancer, an advanced form of cancer where the disease spreads to other sites. For Ingalls’, it spread to his liver.

Ingalls was actively involved in County Government, and was a longtime undersheriff for Oneida County. He took the reigns of race director for many years, handing them over just in this past year.

He was the first 911 coordinator for Oneida County, as well as its director. He also attended the FBI Academy.

Ingalls served as assistant to the County Executive under both Ray Meier and Ralph Eannace, and was president of the Utica Roadrunners, as well as working for the Child Advocacy Center.

Bob will be greatly missed. I have many fond memories from stuffing packet for the Boilermaker back in the early '80s to serving as his Vice President of the Utica Roadrunners, then working with him at the Boilermaker. We have a lot of laughs together. I will always treasure the time I have spent with him. We are all lucky for having Bob in our lives.

Thanks for giving my mom what she deserved all along. For all the breakfasts you made for me when I was half asleep. For treating me like an adult even when I had food on my face. And for never getting mad or fatherly even when I "dressed to impress" an ex-boyfriend. You were always there when I needed you. I'll never want to have a messy room in anyone else's clean house.
