WAMPSVILLE, N.Y. (AP) - An upstate New York man is going to jail
for six months for crashing head-on into his girlfriend's sport
utility vehicle last fall.

Madison County Judge Dennis McDermott says Charles Pickard had
been drinking alcohol and doing cocaine before he got behind the
wheel.

McDermott says Pickard knew he was risking injury to himself and
others and "the worst possible outcome occurred."

The 41-year-old Pickard pleaded guilty in March to criminally
negligent homicide in the death of 38-year-old Holli Read, his
girlfriend of 20 years.

The crash happened just after 1 a.m. on November 4th, about a mile
from the home the couple shared. Read was out looking for Pickard
when the two collided on a blind curve.

6 months for killing someone? she, the victim, who will never breath again, was out looking for the perpetrator, who took her life for caring. justice was not served in this case. 6mths is not even enough time to go through a rehabilitative program in prison, let alone 4 mths is the county. why was this woman's life worth so little? this man will drink and drive again, perhaps he'll kill someone the lienient DA or Judge loves, perhaps then the penalty will be stiffer. Shameful!

This is too much, I do believe he should be punished more severly, however think about it, He killed the woman he loves he will wake up alone every night and realize he is alone because of his actions. He will not be the same individual, I believe some rehab would help out also.

6 months for criminally negligent homicide? 6 months for a felony conviction? You have got to be serious.
