Farmers' Market in second week of operation

By EVAN WHITE

UTICA - The Utica Farmers' Market began its second week of operation.  Uticans are flocking to the Farmers' Market to pick out the best looking strawberries, corn, tomatoes and even bread.

And local growers hope to earn extra money to help offset sky-rocketing costs of production.

Alex MacMillen of Jamaica Dream Farm says the Farmers' Market is how he makes his living.  "This allows me to travel to Virginia to sell garlic, it allows me to go to Hudson Valley to sell garlic," MacMillen said.

The problem is profiting enough.  Despite a agriculture program that provides people with coupons for free produce paid by federal government, vendors are serving up more in operating costs for everything you see.

But the farmers hope that loyalty continues to grow, translating into more green for growers.
