Herkimer County Legislature to appraise possible jail site

HERKIMER - The Herkimer County Legislature passed a resolution Wednesday to hire a firm that will appraise a piece of land in the Schuyler Business Park just off of Route 5 in the Town of Schuyler.

According to the Herkimer County Public Safety Committee Chairman, Len Hendrix, the firm will be appraising two different parcels of land. The first is 20 acres and the second is the full 160+ acres of land in and around the Schuyler Business Park.

At their last meeting, the Herkimer County Legislature approved the Schuyler Business Park as the site that they want to pursue for the potential building of the Herkimer County Jail.

BY TIME PEOPLE IN HERKIMER COUNTY FINALLY DECIDE WHERE TO BUILD A JAIL THEY'LL HAVE TO TRIPLE THE SIZE OF IT. THE STATE NEEDS TO JUST SHUT DOWN THE JAIL FOR GOOD AND LET THE TAXPAYERS PAY TO BOARD OUT ALL INMATES, THEN NO ONE CAN CRY ABOUT A JAIL BEING BUILT IN THEIR AREA.
