Armed robbery of One Stop Market is 14th felony arrest for Utica man

By DAVID DELLECESE

UTICA - A Utica man is facing charges after an armed robbery Thursday morning.

Police say it was at 9:04 a.m. Thursday when James D. Watkins, 41, of Utica, walked into the One Stop Market at 625 Albany Street, armed with a knife, and forcibly stole an undisclosed amount of money and fled.

Twenty minutes later, Watkins was apprehended by Utica Police in the 700 block of Lansing Street.

Watkins has been charged with one count of first-degree robbery. Police say he had 13 prior felony arrests.

"Due to a quick response from uniform patrol, a harmful individual is now incarcerated," said Commissioner Daniel LaBella.
