Congressman Arcuri discusses bills aimed at lowering gas prices

By EVAN WHITE

SCHUYLER - With the holiday weekend just about underway, the one concern on everyone's minds: gas prices!

On Thursday, Congressman Michael Arcuri talked about what Congress is doing to address fuel prices.

Arcuri spoke at Schuyler Wood Pellet and outlined bills he supports that have passed in the house aimed at lowering gas costs.

One bill deals with excessive speculation taking place on the commodity and futures market.

The second bill would force oil companies to drill on property they are leasing before securing new land in which to drill.

Even if each passes the Senate, Arcuri admits other factors for rising gas prices exist.

"There are certain natural factors that we have no control over," Arcuri said. "The fact that China and India are buying more oil...we have no control over that. So that's always going to drive up the reason."

The speculation legislation Arcuri mentioned passed in the House and awaits Senate approval. The second regarding drilling failed to garner enough House votes.

Short and sweet.. We have OUR own natural resources right here in the USA.. Instead the DEM's and REP's fighting for what they may think is right for their party, try using your great minds TOGETHER!! Drill here on and off shore. Let's get the ball rolling. All talk no action.

Let us start here...REFUSE TO DONATE TO EITHER POLITICAL PARTY OR ANY CANIDATE UNTIL SOME REAL SOLUTIONS ARE IN PLACE AND RESULTS SEEN. I have actually tried this when a solicitor called. The reaction was shock. Hurt politians in their pockets where we, the average people, are hurting.

The fact is that neither one of the parties are good for us. They are only good for them. A bunch of leeches sucking our country dry for their own benifit. No one talks about dumping the taxes on gas. That would save us a bundle. And how about the fact that congress buys tax free gas for their own use. We need a third party.. the peoples party, and evict the leeches we have now, and start over. Anybody that thinks the 2008 presidential candidates will help us is diluded.

Arcuri is parroting the Pelosi liberal line. He's forgotten who he works for - the citizens of the 24th. Opposed to new drilling, either ANWR or offshore, and this bill about "requiring" the oil companies to drill their leased acreage before gaining new drilling permissions is a liberal smokescreen. Here in the northeast, home heating oil will be $5 a gallon this winter. $5 a gallon - you read it right. What'll Mike say to that. More visits to the pellet plant?

Gas has tripled in price since the Iraq war began. You know the same war Bush stooge Wolfowitz claimes would pay for itself. Gas rockets up in the season before the election and the republican propganda machins starts spinning out the same old tired reasons for drilling in more environmentaly sensitive areas. To heck with our children's world lets decimate it now so we can keep driving our bloated SUV's. A country can't wage war without sacrifice. This is your sacrifice. Time to grow up now.

I say drill EVERYWHERE possible...so what if a few baby seals or penguins get hurt along the way; it's not the politicians that are the problem, its those animal right activists and tree hugging hippies who have never worked a real job a day in their lives

Arcuri Liberal dem...You folks thought a dem would fix things.Every time a republican has a solution a dem says no not that. Dems never come up with their own solutions. All Arcuri is doing is backing the dems to try and make the Republicans look bad so they can have bigger govt and hire their cronnies to have lifelong tax supported pensions. Look at the economics of red states vs. blue states and you will see the truth.

Ridiculous. Who ran in 2006 on lowering gas prices? Arcuri and the Dems. His "solutions" are designed only to get us to believe he is doing something while keeping the environmentalists happy. Remember, higher gas prices lower demand, meaning we are using less like the environuts want. He is against drilling in ANWR. He is against offshore drilling. He is against recovering shale oil in the Rocky Mountains, where it is predicted there is 1.2 TRILLION barrels. Environuts win, we lose.

I question Mike Arcuri's approach. He seems to want to tax oil profits which I honestly think will just get passed back along to us. Also forcing oil companies to drill on US soil sounds nice but the reason the fields aren't used in the first place is that drilling there is deemed too expensive as it is. This too would seem to drive up, or at least "hold" the prices up. Mike gets more than half of his donations from outside PACs and the Pelosi Kook crowd. The flawed logic only helps THEM!
