Lewis County woman charged with Animal Cruelty and Possession of a Weapon

By RYAN LIGHT

NEW BREMEN - The Lewis County Sheriff's Department arrested 43 year old, Michelle K. Pressnall of 7282 River Road in the Town of New Bremen for criminal possession of a weapon in the fourth degree, and cruelty to animals, both Class A Misdemeanors.

It is alleged that Pressnall burned her dogs back with a hot item or a caustic liquid causing the dog to have permanent damage to his skin.

While sheriff's deputies were investigating the cruelty to animals complaint, they noticed that Presnall also had a rifle and a shotgun, after she had been convicted of a felony back in April of 2003.

Presnall was arraigned in the Town of New Bremen court and sent to the Lewis County Jail on $1,500 bail.

ummm, this women isn't from Utica and the comment about fires isn't necessary when we all know there have been a lot of those this summer. As a pet owner, this story is hard to hear. I hope they start to make harsher laws to those who hurt just because they can.

"It is alleged that Pressnall burned her dog's" It would be nice for a jury of her peers to decide her guilt or innocence...not a bunch of bloggers from the middle ages.

My heart goes out to that poor dog. She deserves to go to jail. I hope that something will be done to prevent her from owning another pet.

Hopefully, this dog will be adopted by a loving family and this woman has to be sentenced to jail time - not just a "fine".
