The man wanted for the death of a New Hartford police officer is dead.

Police in Pennsylvania confirm that 36-year-old Walter Richardson was gunned down during a police raid Tuesday Night.

Delaware County District Attorney Mike Green held a press conference this morning to detail the death of Richardson. He said that last night the U.S. Marshal' s regional task force located Richardson in a home in Chester, Pennsylvania.

They called him on his phone and asked him to surrender, but he refused. At 10:20 p.m., the task force approached the home to arrest him, but Richardson ran out of the building and fired a weapon.

Officers returned fire and Richardson was killed at the scene.

One task force officer was hit by gunshot from Richardson, but that officer was wearing a bullet-proof vest and was not seriously injured.

Richardson was one of two suspects in the robbery Monday night at Lennon's-W.B. Wilcox Jewelers on Commercial Drive in New Hartford. An automobile chase of the two suspects resulted in the suspects' car crash at the Byrne Dairy in Kirkland.

Police caught one suspect, John T. Healy, at the Byrne Dairy.

New Hartford police officer Joseph Corr was shot and killed while chasing Richardson.

Richardson is then believed to have stolen a tow-truck from Kirkland Automotive and forced the driver to take him to Allentown, Pennsylvania, where the driver was released.

An intensive manhunt through Central New York marked by helicopters and roadblocks shifted to Pennsylvania. A S.W.A.T. team believe they narrowly missed Richardson at his Upper Darby home Tuesday night before they tracked him to a neighborhood in Chester, Pennsylvania.

John T. Healy, the captured suspect, was charged with second-degree murder on Tuesday.

Officer Joseph Corr, killed in the line of duty Monday night, was 30 years old and a six-year veteran of the New Hartford Police Department.

He is survived by his wife, his one-year-old daughter and his parents.

The New Hartford police department has set up a trust fund for Officer Corr's daughter.
