Officer hit while in patrol car during early morning chase

By DAVID DELLECESE

UTICA - A Utica Police officer will be out of work for two days but is okay after being hit while in his patrol car.

According to Public Safety Commissioner Dan LaBella, it was around 2 a.m. Monday morning that UPD officer Michael Clive and his partner were trying to pull over a car for driving with high beams on. The car did not pull over and began a chase with police.

The chase started along the Parkway in Utica and eventually made its way to Wall Street, LaBella said.

LaBella said it was there that the suspect, Robert Lucas, exited the vehicle while it was moving.

The moving vehicle then slammed into the passenger side of the police car, injuring Officer Clive.

Clive will only miss two days of work, LaBella said, but is doing fine and will return to work this week.

Lucas has been charged with numerous traffic violations, reckless endangerment, criminal mischief, and fleeing from police.

These Police Officers put thier lives on the line to chase some low down creep, that won't stop when the sirens and lights on. Our Police continues to get slandered by the public when you should be praising them. Keep up the good work UPD!!!!!!!!

It didn't just turn around and hit them??? REALLY?!?! How did you figure that one out inspector?? How do you know?? aren't you the one, "attempting to fill in the blanks with gossip and innuendos."

It didnt just turn around and hit them Mr Know It All. Obviously there are details that are not being told in the article, reason being either they had to for reasons of the investigation or again, this is another slanted news story. Im betting they just cant give out all the details to an ongoing investigation so it leaves people like you wondering and attempting to fill in the blanks with gossip and innuendos.
