UTICA - The countdown rolls on for the 2008 Edition of the Boilermaker Roadrace. While the best 15K in the nation is set for Sunday, several pre-race events are happening all week.

Details of the first-ever "Roadrunner Mile" were released Monday morning. The new event will feature dozens of the area's top young athletes going head to head.

Two of the competitors we talked with say the new event is a perfect addition to Boilermaker week.

"I'm really excited," said Megan Kobiliski of Holland Patent High School. "I get to run in it. And it'll be the first one in this area. I think it's a great way to kick off the Boilermaker. It'll just be a lot of fun."

"Just to know that I'm one of the local area boys that's good enough to be invited to participate in such a great event," said Ryan Millar of New Hartford High School.

The race starts at the Parkway Recreation Center Wednesday night at 6 p.m..
