NEW HARTFORD - The Fourth of July weekend may be over, but a group of veterans' from New Hartford received an extra day of recognition.

Congressman Michael Arcuri honored veterans with a flag flown over the U.S. Capitol Monday morning.

A Sitrin Veterans group was joined by others at the center and even some patriotic preschool students. This came about because the 23 member Sitrin Veterans and friends group only had a 3 by 5 inch flag for their meetings.

"I thought - you know, we needed a bigger flag," said Susan McVoy-Barnard of the group. "So a friend of mine told me that perhaps Congressman Michael Arcuri could get us one that's flown over the capitol."

There are 38 veterans currently living at the Sitrin long-term care facility.
