Bruno says he probably won't finish his term

ALBANY (AP) - Former state Senate Majority Leader Joseph Bruno says he may leave the Senate altogether in a few weeks.

Bruno, 79, a Rensselaer County Republican, was first elected in 1976. His term expires Dec. 31. The Senate's powerful Republican leader since 1995, he announced shortly before the legislative session ended in June that he would not seek re-election and it was time to move on.

Republican senators, who hold a slim 32-30 advantage in the chamber, elected Long Island Sen. Dean Skelos as their leader.

Bruno told reporters Tuesday he's taking it day-to-day might be out in a couple weeks.

Spokesman Kris Thompson says no timetable has been set for Bruno's departure.

There are several candidates angling to take Bruno's job. The general election is Nov. 4.

Well that's another of the Albany dead-beats gone. (My opinion) I wonder what happened behind the scenes here? Did Troopergate or Spitzergate have anything to do with hime leaving ASAP? Who migt be next? Hmmmm. Just the same this guy seemed to be one of the Albany cancers who blew most of our money on his distruct it seems. I would hang my head in shame, this guy and his other little helpers are ther REASON New York State is the way it is. The results speak for themselves.

I am going to miss Bruno. He was the balance in Albany that helped preserve hunter's rights and gun owners. We can only hope that we can get another champion of hunter's and gun owners rights to take Gov Patterson to the cleaners. We will never register our shotguns and rifles and have them shot 100 times and to a database that has not one hit in what? three years!!! What a waste of taxpayers money.
