Residents at Kennedy Plaza Apartments want city's help for change

UTICA - Residents at the Kennedy Plaza Apartment complex want city assistance, because they say the building's management isn't doing enough to keep them safe.

They presented a petition to Public Safety Officials Thursday night of all the people who want something done.

Among their complaints - lack of security. They say there needs to be more security cameras and doors that lock properly.

Public safety officials believe this meeting can change all that.

"Anytime you have the volume of residents coming, bonding together, they are the eyes and ears...and that's a strong indication that they don't like what they see and they want to change it," said Robert Palmieri with the city's Utica Public Safety Department. "And this group is going to change it. There's no question that they will change it."

City officials plan to meet with the building's owners next week to discuss the concerns of the apartment residents.

Only if you people on here really knew what went on at KP. There have been Robberies, Fire, Murder, Gang Related fights on the premises. This is our Home, we should be able to feel safe! We cannot change these things we are asking for on our own, that is why we need help. We cannot afford to move else where. We are tired of Complaining, its due time to make Changes!

People should feel safe regardless of where they live, granted its not the safest place in the area, however alot of people with children live there their children deserve to be safe. Some people have to live there due to the transportation, being single parents

WOW!! Those look like some really nice high rise apartments!!! What a view they must have from those balconies!! Color me ignorant--is this Section 8 housing?? or Public Housing? We have crime in our neighborhood and we had to purchase a dog, deadbolt locks, Security Alarms, and a concealed weapons permit. Also got all our neighbors to be alert and do a block watch--Didn't know I could call the city and just have them take care of it........

I couldn't agree more Mom of 2. We are in the process of moving out of Utica and into a more rural area before my son is in school. The crime is just getting worse and worse.

Umm most people who live there can not afford to move to the country. You should think about that before you ignorant statements like that. Everyone deserves to feel safe no matter where they live. And the country is not much safer lately...we get robbed too...don't be so Ignorant!!!

First, if all the people in the city moved to the country, it wouldnt seem to be the country now, would it?:) If these are so unhappy there why move in there to begin with? Did they think they were moving into Cinderella's castle? Perhaps they could have the magical pixie fairies move them to another place if they dont like it there. Good gosh people...quit complaining and do something for yourselves, dont expect everyone to do something FOR you. Take responsibility for yourselves...

Hey can someone buy a new lock set for my house to so i can feel secure in my home. Why should a building owner have to install cameras in a building so people can feel safe? If you dont feel safe there is a reason pick up the phone and report the illegal activity instead of looking the other way.

Maybe the residents should get a life out of Utica, where there's drugs, murders, rape. You can't live in a building like THAT in UTICA and expect to be safe. Country is the only way to go people! Your own house & acres.
