Rome woman charged with forging contracts to purchase two cell phones at Verizon

NEW HARTFORD - The New Hartford Police Department arrested a Rome woman for allegedly signing the name of another woman in order to purchase two cell phones at the Verizon Wireless store on Seneca Turnpike.

Police charged Amanda M. Fox, 23, of Rome with the following:

  • Forgery in the Second Degree, a Class D Felony
  • Petit Larceny, a Class A Misdemaenor
  • Identity Theft in the Third Degree, a Class A Misdemeanor 

A complaint was filed on July 16 stating that Fox had gone to the Verizon Wireless store on Seneca Turnpike, presented herself as another woman and signed two contracts in the other woman’s name in order to purchase two new cell phones and activate two new contracts.  The Complainant was made aware of the unauthorized purchases when she received the unpaid bill. 

Fox was arraigned in the Town of New Hartford Court on July 22 and released on her own recognizance and ordered to reappear in Town Court at a later date.
