Authorities begin to release details on Paris sexual assault case

State Police in Marcy are investigating the abduction and sexual assault of a 7 year old Utica girl, which occurred on Friday, July 25th, in a wooded area between Mohawk Street and Route 8 in the Town of Paris.

At approximately 8:00 p.m., three young men were walking along a trail near Mohawk Street in the Town of Paris, Oneida County, when they came across a man and a young girl.

The man stated that he was the girl's father, and asked for directions to the nearest road. After providing directions, the men moved on, as nothing appeared suspicious.

After the three men returned to their residence, they learned that a young girl was missing, last seen with a man named Louis Leddick, a recent parolee.

The three men immediately ran back into the woods to the location where they had last seen the man and girl. When they called the girl's name, they heard her yell for help.

They found the girl and immediately took custody of her. The man, who was later identified to be Leddick, ran into the woods, and could not be located by the men due to the darkness.

The men called 911, and personnel from the State Police, Oneida County Sheriff's office, New Hartford Police Department, State Division of Parole, and State Department of Environmental Conservation immediately responded to search the woods for Leddick.

A command post was established at the Sauquoit Volunteer Fire Department. Police K-9 Units and a State Police helicopter assisted in the search.

At approximately 1:30 a.m. on Saturday morning, Leddick was located on a trail by a State Trooper and taken into custody.

The seven year old girl was transported to Faxton-St. Lukes Healthcare Center by Edwards Ambulance and subsequently transferred to the SUNY Health Science Center in Syracuse where she was treated for her injuries. She has since been released to her family.

Louis Leddick was discovered to be the subject of an active warrant for Violation of Parole. He was released on parole from the Watertown Correctional Facility on June 24, 2008, and he listed 10 Orchard Street Mohawk as his current address.

A warrant for Leddick’s arrest was issued by the NY State Division of Parole on July 22, 2008. Leddick is in the Oneida County Jail without bail on the parole warrant, awaiting grand jury action.

The investigation is continuing in conjunction with the Oneida County Child Advocacy Center.

the community seems to only get half of a story when tragedy hits. this little princess needs a better home as do her siblings. parents love and protect their kids, not abuse and mistreat them as this family has. who goes on national tv and laughs while sitting waiting to be interviewed as her so called aunt from rome did? lowlifes that is who. these people all need serious help before another one of their kids gets hurt. where is CPS and other agencies that need to press charges on this mom?!?!

I feel very bad for the little girl, but everyone has to realize that it is NOT his family's fault. They are hurting too. Also he has not been charged with this crime yet. While there is some proof that she was assaulted, there has been NO proof that it was rape. I think everyone should wait until all the facts are out before crusifying people. I feel for the girl and hope she is well and just hope that he only pays for what he actually did.

i have known the family of this little precious girl for years my heart goes out to kayla. she came into this world a premmie and fought then and she will continue to fight even stronger now. however, not only should the "aunt" who was sitting be punished so should her parents. what the public does not hear is that this mother alomost lost all four of her kids last summer to CPS for neglect and abuse. why did the system fail then? think about it people maybe this could have been prevented.

I'm from Mohawk, and hope that these acts don't give our area a bad name. I'm the same age as this criminal, and don't remember him ever attending our school so I don't think he grew up there. Maybe residing in a small, quiet, and unsuspecting town like Mohawk is an attractive place to live for people like this though. How sad to think they could be right around the corner..

I was reading comments on here and noticed "not another one from Mohawk" and I regretfully have to say that these horrible people are all over. we all know this was a horrible crime commited against this little girl. But her famly needs to understand too it is not his family's fault. They are just as upset by this. They feel terrible also and would like nothing more to get a hold of him themselves. We do not need another crime to come about from this. We need to thank god she is ok and pray that Louis pays for what he did. She is a little angel, He is an evil demon, and those boys are her heros. God bless them boys and lit'l girl

This is a horrible situation and he should burn in hell for what he did to that poor child!! What was the mother or aunt of this child thinking leaving the kids with him. He does not even look like a sane person and yet hes drinking and doing drungs with them and they think it is safe for this guy to be with their kids. This boy is sick and needs to pay for his crime, drinking and drugs are no excuse. I also think the family should be looked at drugs and neglect. God Bless the lit'l girl!!!

For anyone who thinks that "his cellmates" will get him think again.. your tax money puts child molesters in protective custody for their entire sentence. Then if they have to go into a program after the rights they have and you again pay for should make you sick. I feel terrible for the little girl and hope she gets all the help and support she needs. As far as he goes he will NEVER get what he deserves not in the justice system here. He has rights you know and we all pay for it in many ways

we have elements here that should be viewed separately..the child is the victim and god bless her..she was victimized by a very sick and deranged man who, in my opinion should never see daylight again...but shouldn't some fault lie with the parent...a parent's job is to protect their children above all else....there is no excuse for allowing a child to be in the way of possible harm....wake up..the world is swarming with horrible people..the two young men who saved this baby are true heroes

It really sounds like you boys did save her life. If he punched and threatened to kill her, he likely would have followed through, and WAS following through. Just in the nick of time - I'm so sorry for what she must have endured during the time she spent with him, and yet so grateful that she was rescued, and he was apprehended. And no way on earth I'd have let that guy watch any child while I took a shower or even walked into another room. Just out of prison, and entrusted with a child????
