Weaver Estates Project Moving Forward

By Jerry Walsh

The Albany developer who is interested in a project in the City of Utica was in town this week.

The project, tentatively called "Colonial Square, would be located on the old Weaver Estates off Trenton Road.

Drawings have now been filed with the city. It shows how the project will be laid out. We also know what type of residents the development will cater to.

It will be a intergenerational housing development and will include apartments for seniors and single family homes in the $150,000 to $190,000 range.

Recently Utica's Urban Renewal Department, who owns the rights to the land, voted to sell it to the developer for $130,000.

The deal includes the developer investing $2 million to $3 million for infrastructure for the new development. That will include putting in roads and hooking up to utility services.

If all goes as planned, work on the development could begin later this year.
