Nuisance Abatement search warrants lead to drugs and paraphernalia found at several Utica properties
UTICA - Under Utica ’s Nuisance Abatement Law a search warrant was executed on the following properties which led to the finding of illegal drugs and associated paraphernalia.
The owners of the above mentioned properties were advised that should another incident occur within one year, the City of Utica could begin legal action which could result in charges of up to $1,000.00 per day as well as closing the property for one year. A hearing will be held with the owners of properties to determine what actions will be imposed for compliance.
Public Safety Commissioner Daniel LaBella stated that “Landlords will be held accountable for renting to individuals who conduct illegal drug activity.”

If they have so much as a Parking Ticket on their record and/or a credit score LESS than 800 they don't get a foot in the door...Only cost $29.00 to do and WELL WORTH it too...You weed out the Wackos, druggies, molesters, and other trash that Utica has to offer... Keep the trash somewhere else, not on my property. Flag for moderationWednesday, Aug 20 at 12:17 PM Blindeye wrote ...What about the drugs at Orion Bus every thursday night at 8pm in the parking lot? Why would u rent to anyone who is only going to abuse or destroy the property,or be disruptive. For starters u can have the potential renters fill out an applications, the bad eggs usually won't bother. Ask for phone # of previous places were they have lived, check creditials! just as if they are filling out an app. for a job. u may find a person who actually cares and who will take care of the property. This rental supplements my meager SS check and retirement to help me in my old age. The young man pays his rent every month and has no problems with the neighbors or police being called for fights or loud parties. Turns out he's a major drug dealer--and I would know this HOW???? The druggie is responsible for his actions PERIOD!! NOT THE LANDLORD! Flag for moderationWednesday, Aug 20 at 8:16 AM Wow wrote ...Such nice Utica neighborhoods.I just dont get it? Not to mention landlord-tenants rights. Let's get it together wanna be lawmakers. You do not have the power to overlook a constitutional right. No not all landlords are like that but most where we live are. Also is this law just in utica? because in the townof chadwicks we have alot going on and when you call police they come but everything only gets better for a few days than back to same. because they have scanners and here when police are coming. hope this is on web so i know word got out this is not happening just in city Flag for moderationTuesday, Aug 19 at 8:30 PM Michael wrote ...How does a landlord know if he rents to a drug dealer? The dealers wont wear a sign. You cant tell by looking at them and if you can tell you cant discriminate(its against the law)If they are on welfare then you cant verify employment but that doesnt mean anything anyway. So,lets tie the landlord hands with 'laws' but tell him that he could be fined, big time,if he rents to a dealer OR he just abandons the property and leaves the mess for the city. Now I know why there are so many abandoned bldgs Flag for moderationTuesday, Aug 19 at 6:51 PM property owner wrote ...do not punish the landlord just lock the druggies up their the ones dealing, a absent land lord dose not know what goes on when their not around... give the land lord the right if they suspect the tenant is dealing they they can toss them out with no recourse none of this 4 month legal hassle dealing with the city Marshall and the expense Flag for moderationTuesday, Aug 19 at 6:47 PM amazing wrote ...mayor LaBella the punishment for the drugies should be harsher, not just a slap on the hand. tell me the landlords have to do drug testing on people who want to rent from them now??? whats next?
