Governor Paterson: "Cut now!"
ALBANY - State lawmakers took a break from summer recess for a special session in Albany Tuesday. Governor David Paterson called the session with Governor Paterson called the session. The message - cut, and cut now. Around 2:30 Tuesday afternoon, word was out that the Senate, Assembly, and Governor had agreed on a package of cuts, and we're already at work printing up bills. So far, the package includes roughly $1 billion in cuts through 2008-2009. There will be no cuts to tuition, school district, and municipalities. And the governor says no layoffs. Beyond that, Assemblywoman RoAnn Destito says everyone is going to have to give a little bit - 6 % to be exact. In other words, if local lawmakers brought $60,000 for an organization to the local area and they're still waiting on that money, when they get it, it'll be 6% less. Those cuts only apply to undispersed money. Destito said shortly before 5 that they were told to take a dinner break and they'll return at 8 p.m. to try and solve some language problems with respect to proposed healthcare cuts. Most Popular |
