ROME - According to the Public Information Officer at Tinker Air Force Base, a routine training flight returned to Griffiss Airfield early as a precautionary measure after detecting fumes in the cabin of the E-3 Sentry aircraft.

"This was a minor incident and the aircraft landed at Griffiss Airfield without difficulty or injury," a press release from the Air Force Base said.

The Rome Fire Department responded to the incident as a routine measure in response to all in-flight emergencies at the airfield.

The E-3 crews train extensively for in-flight emergencies, therefore the crew recognized the problem early and was able to safely return to Griffiss Airfield without any further problems.

At this point, maintenance and safety personnel are investigating the situation.
