UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - In 12 days Ultimate Fighting Championship Fighter Matt Hamill, of Utica, will be involved in his biggest match of his career.  But Monday night, before full preparations could set in, Hamill had a hero's send-off out of Utica.

Autographs, pictures, and even a key to the city.  Monday night Matt Hamill was the main event.

Ed Lynch is a big fan of Hamill, but he was surprised when he saw the ultimate fighter in person.  "He looks a lot bigger on TV,  But I'm not going to tell him that in front of his face," Lynch said.

Sam Phou is another Hamil fan, and he's excited about the big pay-per-view.  "I'm looking forward to this fight that is coming up in September and I have no doubt that Matt's going to win that fight," Phou said.

That fight will be the biggest of Hamill's career.  Right now, the man who owns a home in Schuyler, and trains in Utica has a career record of 6-1.  Come September 6th, Hamill will fight a man who is 25-1, former champion and UFC veteran Rich Ace Franklin.

Hamill's boxing coach Tim Greene says that a win in this fight would be a huge step in Hamill's career.

Today, Matt showed appreciation back to his fans.  "The more fans in Utica the more motivated I get," Hamil said.  I really, really want to thank the people for supporting me it's really awesome," Hamill said.

Matt Hammill's fight in Atlanta is September 6th and can be seen on pay-per-view.
