Senator Seward says Frankfort killer should remain in prison

ALBANY, N.Y. - State Senator James L. Seward (R/I/C-Oneonta) has urged the NYS Parole Board to deny release to Benedict DiPiazza, who murdered 17 year old Noreen Jones in 1965 in Frankfort. Piazza had hearing in mid-August.

In a letter to the superintendent where DiPiazza is housed, Seward said he objected "in the strongest possible terms" to the killer’s release out of concern for the family and the safety of his constituents. DiPiazza’s crime involved following Jones into the police station and fatally shooting her when she sought refuge under a table.

Seward noted that when DiPiazza was released in August, 1999, he was arrested within four months. Seward said that demonstrates his lack of rehabilitation and continuing disregard for the law.

"He’s a threat to the Jones family and the community, and he’s reportedly threatened the prosecutors and the family since," Seward said. "He must not be released - period. I have asked the parole board and relevant state officials to keep DiPiazza behind bars where he belongs."
