Help coming to home owners

WKTV News

(WKTV) - State funding is heading to the Mohawk Valley to help struggling homeowners.

Assemblywoman Roann Destito says the Neighbor Works Home Ownership Center has been awarded $170,000 to help  homeowners in danger of foreclosure.

Destito says the program will also provide funding to assist housing counselors, mediators and attorneys who are helping sub-prime mortgage borrowers keep their homes.  That will be done by providing credit counseling and training programs.

Assemblywoman Roann Destito will be challenged this year by Republican Kevin McDonald.

They are not giving these people money! They are giving them counseling to try and save their homes. That way we don't end up with a bunch of empty houses that become targets for arson.

and nevermind the homeowners who actually bought houses they could afford. There seems to be no reward for those hardworking people who actually spend within their means. Meanwhile the deadbeats who bought more house than they could pay for get bailed out. Disgusting. evict them all and foreclose.

The $170,000 will be going to councilors, mediators, and attorneys. No doubt the bucks will be going to some favored Mohawk Valley Sons & Daughters who fill some do nothing patronage jobs.

Renting and paying someone else's mortgage is a stupid waste of money. I believe a lot of the troubles came from fluctuating interest rates- and obviously there were a lot of people who didn't predict how how they would go.

It's called save money, give at least 10 percent down, have good credit, and don't buy a home you can't afford. Why do people expect me to bail them out for their mistakes? I want to keep my money. All of it. Call me selfish, but I don't want to give any of it to any of you.

The mortgage companies give higher interest rates to people with less than good/excellent credit. If you can't afford the rates/mortgage, wait until your credit improves to buy a home. In the meantime, you can rent.

with bailing people out of foreclosures if they were stupid enough to buy a home they couldn't afford. If their income has decreased due to illness or death in the family then I can support that but the American taxpayers shouldn't have to bail out people just because they were stupid.

170,000.00 not going to go very far at all.....We need a loa that will help us refinance not just regular homes but mobil homes to. The new FHA law has a claws NO MOBIL HOMES! I dont think that is fair because these days this is the only way we can afford a home, and we need help to. The morgage compaines are taking advantage of that and giving high interest rates... Where is our help.

I have to laugh...not at the circumstance of forclosure, but for the fact that I have no hot water in the kitchen because the lead pipes have clogged with hard water, but that my window in the living room just fell apart and we don't have the money to repair that, either. We've kept afloat since the recession, but things do need to be fixed. I saw the village Assessor's office out the other day. I'm hoping they don't raise my assessment too much because with all that's wrong, I'll fight it.

foreclosures are the main issue right now. home repairs may be a neccessity but at least you still have a home. people in danger of going through foreclosure won't have a home at all, and obviously that's more important.
