Power Struggle

WKTV News

(WKTV) -  New York Regional Interconnect's power line application has been accepted by the Public Service Commission.  This is the company's fourth attempt to correct problems with its application.

The completion of the application now means NYRI can make its case to the PSC.  It does not meant that the application has been approved.

Mohawk Valley Edge President and local representative of Communities Against Regional Interconnect Steve Dimeo says the application is still flawed.  "We happen to think, that frankly, the application is still deficient and the Public Service Commission didn't hold their feet to the fire," Dimeo said.  "There are probably a number of that things they could have insisted that NYRI provide that they didn't push on that we're disappointed in."

Two public hearings are scheduled for October.

***UPDATE*** (August 28, 2008; 1:05 p.m.): Congressional candidate Richard Hanna issued a statement regarding his opposition to the power lines. Click RELATED CONTENT for more.
