Former financial advisor rejects plea offer

UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - A former financial advisor accused of 12 crimes has rejected a plea offer.

Doreen Dorn was in Oneida County Court Thursday for the offer. Had she accepted it, she would have received six months in jail and five years of probation.

If convicted, Dorn could face at least 30 years in state prison if the case goes to trial.

Her alleged crimes stem from the theft of more than $350,000 from a now-deceased client.

Dorn is due back in court on September 16.

Please let the jury do its job. If I stole money, I would take the 6 months. You have heard nothing except unproven DA allegations. Be nice and hold your decisions until all the evidence is out. Thank you.

I do believe that it is a chump plea. She should have gotten a lot worse. Rejecting a sweet plea like that is pure stupidity. She's most likely saying, I'm taking it to court for the principle of it. Lady, we all know there are no principles in law enforcement. You take a sweet plea when your offered one, whether your guilty or not. It is said she was stupid doing her crime, I think she was stupid to turn down this deal. Oh, Les Lewis is an outstanding laywer, top notch!

This is nothing to her. She has taken from many people, including her own family. She has no remorse for what she does as long as she gets what she wants...either total control or money...here is to hoping that she finally gets what she deserves...jail.

Send her away. Just think if that was your family member she stole from and their life savings. 30 years should do it. She'll be 80 or 90 when she gets out.

I've heard of teens going to jail for far longer for stealing much less. What does it say about our society when people are allowed to get away with white collar crime over and over again?

Having been in the same business as Doreen for over two decades, I have no idea if she is guilty or not. However, for as long as she has been in the industry, she is guilty of one thing for sure; Being stupid. You cannot do anything like she did with client funds. The deceased mans family could come after you, even if you did not intend to do anything wrong. I wish her the best and hope that she did not do anything wrong other than being really dumb.

why do young kids get prison time for stealing 1000.00 and lawyers that steal 350,000 get house arrest or 6 months in jail. these women knew what they were doing. how many other old people did they rob. i guess they paid off the DA and the judge. there is no other explanation. oneida county stinks.
