Intoxicated female arrested for breaking into home

NEW HARTFORD, N.Y. - On Thursday at approximately 6:30 a.m., the New Hartford Police responded to a call from a resident on Roberts Ave. in the Town of New Hartford.

The resident reported an irate woman who was banging and kicking on the front door of the home and yelling that she wanted to come in.

Prior to the arrival of the police, the woman went to the back of the home and used a chair to smash out a glass panel on a sliding door.

The woman then entered the home and continued yelling and screaming. The occupants locked themselves in an upstairs bedroom until the police arrived.

Upon arrival, the police located the irate woman lying in the broken glass from the sliding door. It was apparent she was highly intoxicated.

She was identified as Areial M. Sturetavant, 24, of Utica.

Sturetavant was taken into custody by Patrolman Michael Kowalski and charged with criminal trespass and criminal mischief. Sturetavant was treated for injuries to her hands and arms at St. Elizabeth Medical Center and released.

She was arraigned in New Hartford Town Court and remanded to the Oneida County Jail in lieu of $1,000.00 bail.

The occupants of the residence were not injured and were not familiar with Sturetavant.

I was in an abusive relationship, married to early, have kids with my husband and I don't drink. That's no excuse. I actually help the needy in my employment. Give back to make society better. She's a waste of space.

The house that was brokedn into happens to be my mom's neighbor and they neglected to mention how she let their adorable dog loose as well. Any motive yet? It seems really random.

You're dead asleep in your bed. You hear glass smashing and call the police and remain locked in your bedroom because you're in such fear for you and your family's life. Now, try to sleep and feel safe in your home from now on and get your kids to be able to sleep at night after this. THAT'S what this drunken misfit has done to some family. Do you think they should care about how she was brought up or the abusive relationship SHE put herself in, or how SHE gave herself substance abuse problems?

why do you assume she had to be somewhere "that allowed her to be so drunk" she is an adult and did this to herself - could have been at home or a friend's house - I know what you are insinuating. perhaps she was on something at the time as well.

At 6:30 am this young lady obviously has a problem with alcohol, maybe she should look into going to McPike alcohol treatment center..... my neighbor went and they havent had a drop in 3 years!!She could have severed an artery, then her family would have sued the homeowner for having a sliding glass door, AM I RIGHT???

Have to admit, this one made me laugh. Feel bad for the homeowners, luckily they didn't exercise their rights to defend their selves and property. Luckily this tool only injured herself. Although I have my doubts about the story, looks more like she used her face to break in, not a chair.

She's soooooooo lucky she didn't break into the wrong house. A home owner with a gun could have shot her, no questions asked. Man, is she lucky.
