Zogby weighs in on McCain's VP pick

WKTV News

UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - Meanwhile, pollster John Zogby was surprised McCain's Vice Presidential choice.

Zogby had former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney, and Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty as the top candidates, with Texas Senator Kay Bailey Hutchinson as the dark horse.

Zogby says that the announcement has taken all the attention away from Barack Obama's speech last night, and by picking a female McCain could pick up some former Hillary Clinton supporters.

And Zogby believes there was another motivation behind the pick.  "I think what he also wanted to do was make some history, Zogby said.  "So the Democrats have obviously made some history, now here's an opportunity for the Republican's to make some history.  So, whoever is elected, history will be made on November 4th."

Zogby added that with Palin's short time in office, he believes the experience question is now null and void.  "That takes the question of Obama's lack of experience off the table," Zogby said.  "Because you're going to get an old white guy and a young African-American and an old white guy and a young woman...so make your pick.'"

Palin does have the most executive experience on either ticket with two years as Governor of Alaska and her time as mayor before that.
