This driveway @ GWF--is it going to be another eyesore waste of $ like the middle school disgrace? Dont' get me going on how they've ruined that school. Don't fool yourself, this was voted down because of the field, lumping it in with necessary structural repairs was foolish, disingenuous and devious. Shame Shame. PS: Didn't your husband play football? Flag for moderationThursday, May 22 at 11:38 AM PLangley wrote ...There is no ignorance here Mr. Taxpayer, except your biases in assuming I am male and played football, you are wrong. I am educated and volunteer in my community, do you? Probably not. This wasn't just about a football field, it is about giving our children and community facilities they can be proud of. Possible, due to biases like yours, the CAPITAL PROJECT was voted down, not just a football field. Voting this down didn't just effect kids in sports but all of them. Too Bad. Flag for moderationThursday, May 22 at 10:35 AM Happy wrote ...Do not stick things like essential repairs to the Middle School or GWF and the High school ceiling/roof in with a CLEAR PORK project and then blame the voters for harming the children .. That blame lies with ONE person.Reality Check Honey! Flag for moderationThursday, May 22 at 10:33 AM Happy wrote ...Folks can say what you like about the decline of the capital project however unfortunatly for you who disagree the Majority and not a small one have decided this is not what they wanted our district to focus on this time around. The voters have spoken and they have spoken in large numbers. Finish the capital projects you have started...Fix the highschool roof.. The middle school floors in the upstairs that the public never sees. Flag for moderationWednesday, May 21 at 8:18 PM HP Grad 84 wrote ...How about finishing the projects that have already begun. You still need finish the upstairs in the middle school that was voted on two coming three years ago. Now you are going to build a gym at HPE and you want a football stadium. Get real!!! If the stadium passed it would be double digit increase in taxes. New fields does not make better players. Flag for moderationWednesday, May 21 at 7:55 PM another resident of HP wrote ...There comes a time when things become too costly to repair. Now that the capital project has been defeated I hope the MS aud does not fall int that category, the Football field has. Now were are going to pay to have it repaired, transport our students to other locations while its being repaired, and pay more fuel to go some where else to watch them play. Its just putting a bandaid on a bullet wound. The MS aud was a beautiful place to enjoy a show, nobody complained about the Stanley rehab. I dont care if they're trying to steal it out of my left pocket or the right. The bottom line is that the schools need to spend less, they're killing us. State aid has gone nowhere but up, I'm confused how anyone can blame the state for giving us more and more aid, while schools spend more and more. You don't see the circular argument here? Bottom line: schools spend less, we pay less!!! Flag for moderationWednesday, May 21 at 6:26 PM concerned about bitterness wrote ...you voted aginst the kids not the BOE--get your heads out of the graound and see that a school needs facilities to offer so students will have choices to better improve themselves and their self worth--stop complaining and look around the communities' schools around us and see we "look" pitiful behind them --you want better students better press--well it starts from the ground up--this was not all about a stadium--a capital project everywhere else has included many things as this did -- Flag for moderationWednesday, May 21 at 6:26 PM hp resident wrote ...Thank you voters! We just lost a gift. HP was not doing this for the foot ball team alone. Almost all sports have lost out, track, x country, soccer, field hockey, even baseball. All of those teams could have utilized that project, even if it is just for practice. Our local stores and resturants have lost out as well. Section III will not look to HP for any Sectional play, which would have brought in money to our local establisments. Looks like another 20 yrs. of standing watching games. Flag for moderationWednesday, May 21 at 3:50 PM HP Tax payer wrote ...I'm surprised that the bus proposal was separate from the capital improvement projects. Why were all the capitals linked together with the new field, I would have voted for the new roof and the improvements at GWF parking lot. They should have been put up to the vote seperately. Flag for moderationWednesday, May 21 at 3:26 PM Happy in HP wrote ...Its funny that HP has one instance of a violent act and now that is all anyone can think of. HP is a great school and has done wonderful things for me and my children. The field is in great need of repair and we were all told that the repairs would cost close to or the same as a new one. And as a parent of 3 children in the school I am happy to see it come, its a disgrace for other schools to come and see what we play on. And speaking for popwarner we busted our buts to raise money to get that!! Flag for moderationWednesday, May 21 at 2:08 PM Grad of 86 wrote ...I agree with many points here . While it is a sore topic it is not just the schools fault that taxes are so high . Thank New York State Government . We need people in government that are going to push more for state aid in schools to help the property tax payer . Where will most people be if taxes continue to go up at this rate or more ? Not in New York . We should be yelling yes but not at the school but at the government ;local, state, and federal.Changes need to happen . Flag for moderationWednesday, May 21 at 1:33 PM HP Taxes in escrow wrote ...It is funny to think that it is all about the ballfield it is not . Those of us fortune to have a nice house are going to be unfairly burden by the increase in the taxes . This is especially after towns in the area are or have reassessed properties in the area over the last two years . Some that are just scraping by are going to have problems the fuel prices being the least . Me my mortgage is probably going to increase$100's a month for the escrow . Something has to give money is low . Flag for moderationWednesday, May 21 at 12:49 PM SKH wrote ...moneystrapped...exactly what pro-active stance do you believe would influence the cost of fuel? Flag for moderationWednesday, May 21 at 12:46 PM SKH wrote ...The simply truth is the shortsighted voters of this district just voted no to $8 million of state money! Money that you have already paid in state taxes!. The total project, which included many things other than a field, would have only cost us $2 million over 16 years. This amounts to less than one half of one percent of the total budget. We all like to complain about that fact that we get nothing in Upstate from Albany. Guess what? You have made SURE you won't get anything this year either. Flag for moderationWednesday, May 21 at 12:15 PM Happy in HP wrote ...To Newer Citizen: Look past the hype, spending $10mill will not buy community pride. If anything it would probably only further divide the community. For those who desire the latest and greatest in sports facilities, look no further than Northern Comm Pop Warner. Perhaps it is the school who will be paying to use someone elses brand new field. How many fields does HP need? Perhaps the school should be asking Pop Warner how they pulled it off? Flag for moderationWednesday, May 21 at 11:34 AM concerned citizen wrote ...It seems that there is a general misunderstanding of how school funding is appropriated. The state allocates funding that can only be used for facilities. Therefore it's not a decision between instruction and facility improvements, it's facility improvements or no facility improvements. It's not about HP turning out a Pro Football player, it's about our children having the facilities that make our children and our community proud. We've lived down South and their facilities and the way they support their communities makes the decision to turn down the capital project just plain sad.... Flag for moderationWednesday, May 21 at 9:47 AM Happy in HP wrote ...The BOE helped the taxpayers and failed itself in not providing enough data with the proposition. Would anyone have voted for this project if it was $9.5 mil for the MS Aud and $0.5 for a field? Or was it $9.0 mil for the Floyd driveway and $0.5 mil each for the field and Aud? What were they thinking in trying to slide a $10mil project through with no details? To disappointed: Try the Army. If proposal included a baseball field I would have considered it. Combining this spectacular coliseum with critically necessary structural repairs was the predictable play by this BOE, they've done it before. Please all of you preaching this field would have prevented violence, step away from the Kool-Aid, in your hearts you know problem children aren't going to play football on this or any other field. I suspect you don't even want them playing with your kids? Flag for moderationWednesday, May 21 at 8:45 AM Disappointed in HP wrote ...it's disappointing that everyone forgot that the capital project wasn't JUST the new field, that without a doubt is quickly becoming a necessity as the current one is in need of some serious addressing. it also included the MS auditorium which if you haven't seen it, it's disgraceful. In the flyer that was mailed it stated due to contingency rules, the contingency budget would be the same as the budget that was proposed.
