I am from New york city and there are a lot of wannabees here. Crime is crime noi matter where it is and if people don't start taking charge of there families and stop trying to be friends with there children and be parents then maybe kids would not think about killing robbing and hurting others take responsibility and be the parents that your children need not friends... to Ms. Davis and her son. Ms. Davis your son needs you. Please don't say you wish a bullet would have hit you. James protected you. Your needed here for your son, who is undoubtedly going to blame himself for the death of James. It was not his fault. Please tell him that over and over. Whoever shot him was one sick human being. The argument appears to be small in nature, not anywhere near losing a life for. I am so sorry that this happened. My condolences.

I sat here and read some of the ignorant comments on this subject. I was saddended to think that everyone were making comments about the mayor and utica. What about the young man who lost his life. He was someone's son, someone's father and someone's friend. Let's have respect for his family. God will take care of the coward who did this. It's not a political thing, It's just a sad thing!!!! My prayers go out to the family of this young man. He was a nice young man.Rest in peace Mr. Johnson

I nerver post on this site but I feel the need to express my freedom of speech. Most of you on here are so quick and sharp to slam Utica PD. Did u ever once think of the amount of crime that is in utica, compared to the amount of law enforcement officers that are in the city to combat it. I for one feel UPD is doing a very good job with what they have. Mayor - You need to give public safety a much larger budget and not worry about a new parade stand or watch a mass exedous of citizens from here.

Changing the gun laws won't help, the ones getting the guns illegally are the ones committing the crimes. If anything more people need guns then people committing crimes will think twice before robbing or mugging someone.

Realize that although a politician will promise to make things better in a city, their ability to do that is limited. They can't control the actions of the inhabitants of a city. If they could pick and choose who lived in Utica, half of the population would be asked to leave. They have what they have to work with, and that isn't much. The face of Utica has changed, no one can control that. We can't blame elected officials for the actions of every citizen. Personal accountability is key.

The problem is not the city alone. The problem is going on in other cities as well. The problem is these young punks/wanna be gangsters. It starts at home with the "family values" and these young adults having children unexpectedly and then not having a clue what they're doing. These young punks/wanna be's, get their hands on guns and don't know how to use them properly. Everyone now resolves to guns as their weapon of choice, but not fists like the old times. Gun laws need to be altered.

My in-laws live right next door to where this happened. My mother-in-law watches my 10 month old son almost every day while my wife and I work. Now I have serious trepidations about leaving him there. He spends his time in their living room for God's sake. My heart goes out to the family of the victim. My in-laws say he was a nice, helpful man, and that he bothered no one in the neighborhood. :(

What would the benefits of me living in a city where , Your Schools roof leaks, your crime rate is rising, my house could be set on fire and your roads are so badly outdated that my wheels need to be re-balanced every time I got out and drive.
